Promethean Training


Promethean training is now available through Edtechtrain!

A portfolio of skills based courses are available and designed to support your implementation of the Promethean Solution. The training solution includes a range of options, both face-to-face workshops and online courses, aligned to suit your specific professional development program, schedule, and budget.  New curriculum examples incorporating the Common Core Standards will be presented to the teachers and they will have an opportunity to create their own!

About Promethean

Promethean has granted approval and is the umbrella institution for Edtechtrain to provide training, certification and professional development of teachers on their products. We are committed to the delivery of a framework that facilitates an integrated and holistic approach to support the adoption and integration of interactive education solutions in the classroom.

The ETT/Promethean learning solution offers comprehensive course curriculum designed to increase both the technical and pedagogical competency of teachers. To help you distinguish between our offerings and determine which courses best meet the professional needs of you or your teachers, we have compiled a detailed guide.

Please remember that all courses are sequential and upper level courses should not be taken until the prerequisites are met.

Courses Offered

Introduction to ActivInspire 1.6

This course introduces the main features of ActivInspire and will guide participants through the basic skills required to create simple, interactive flipcharts.

Participants in this course will learn to:

  • Use the functions of the ActivPen (pen, shape, text)

  • Calibrate the ActivBoard

  • Customize the interface

  • Resource Browser

  • Manipulate objects

  • Add and format text

  • Focus Tools including the Clock, Revealer and more

  • Learn some of the features added in 1.6

Includes:
A curriculum companion flipchart features hands-on practice activities and curriculum implementation examples.

Outcome:
Participants will be able to create basic flipcharts using the main ActivInspire tools.

Upon completion of course requirements, participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating attendance and professional development hours which can be used for the purpose of gaining CEUs where applicable. Full-day face to face customers should bring appropriate materials to the workshop for the design and creation of a flipchart lesson.

Promethean Training Request

ActivInspire Core Essentials

In this course participants will gain further understanding of the basic tools and capabilities of ActivInspire software, providing them with a foundation for continuing to build their knowledge of the software and its application in the classroom.

Participants in this course will also receive step-by-step, hands-on instruction and integrated examples, including, but not limited to:

  • Developing the Core Tools

  • Creating interactive flipchart lessons

  • Exploring the Resource Browser in-depth

  • Accessing online resources from Promethean Planet

  • Magic Ink

  • Desktop Annotate

Includes:
A digital version of the Core Essentials manual.
A curriculum companion flipchart featuring hands-on practice activities and curriculum implementation examples.

Outcome:
Upon completion of the class, participants will have the knowledge and skills necessary to use ActivInspire's basic tools and the Shared Resource Library to construct interactive lessons. Participants will also be introduced to Promethean Planet for additional resources and support for creating lessons and understanding ActivInspire.
Upon completion of course requirements, participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating attendance and professional development hours which can be used for the purpose of gaining CEUs where applicable. Full-day face to face customers should bring appropriate materials to the workshop for the design and creation of a flipchart lesson.

ActivInspire Beyond the Essentials

Participants will gain an understanding of the more advanced features and capabilities of ActivInspire software, providing them with a firm understanding for how to continue integrating its application in the classroom.
Participants will receive instruction designed to:

  • Provide step by step hands-on instruction and integrated examples, including, but not limited to:

    • Using the Property and Action Browsers

    • Using outside resources (MS Office, Internet, etc.) with ActivInspire

    • Creating Containers and Restrictors

    • Creating and working with video, sound & image files

  • Apply knowledge to create engaging and interactive instructional flipcharts for use with students

Includes:
A digital version of the Beyond The Essentials manual.

A curriculum companion flipchart featuring hands-on practice activities and curriculum implementation examples.

Outcome:
Participants will be able to incorporate a higher level of interactivity into their flipcharts by using containers and restrictors, as well as embedding multimedia.

Upon completion of course requirements, participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating attendance and professional development hours which can be used for the purpose of gaining CEUs where applicable. Full-day face to face customers should bring appropriate materials to the workshop for the design and creation of a flipchart lesson.

Promethean Training Request

ActivInspire Training the Essentials

Training the Essentials for ActivInspire is designed to prepare teachers to design and deliver ActivInspire training within their own school district. The course includes discussions of Best Practices of Professional Development and working with adult learners.

  • Training the Essentials is offered in both 3 or 4 day formats (4 day includes LRS introduction)

  • Interactive hands-on practice and interaction in redelivery methods

  • Discussion of Best Practices of Professional Development

  • Create and implement a Professional Development plan (4 day session only)

  • NOTE: ActivInspire software is NOT taught in this class, as it is expected that participants already have excellent working knowledge of the software.

Outcome:
At the conclusion, participants will be able to design and deliver ActivInspire training within their own school districts.
Upon completion of course requirements, participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating attendance and professional development hours which can be used for the purpose of gaining CEUs where applicable.

Designed for: District-level professional development staff, Experienced ActivInspire teachers responsible for training and/or coaching or District/ building level staff responsible for professional development planning (4 day session only)
Prerequisites: Introduction to ActivInspire; ActivInspire Core Essentials; ActivInspire Beyond the Essentials; Hands-on use of ActivBoard/ActivInspire for a minimum of 2 months

Face to Face: 3/4 day

Promethean Training Request

Creating a Successful Promethean Implementation

Participants of this course will become familiar with ActivInspire software and tools and be able to create simple flipcharts. In addition, participants will be able to identify criteria for teacher evaluation.

Participants can expect the course to:

  • Provide an understanding of ActivInspire basic tools and capabilities

  • Ensure attendees understand how to construct a simple flipchart

  • Provide background for building software knowledge and application

  • Identify expectations of various teacher skill levels

  • Correlate ActivClassroom success with an evaluation instrument

  • Examine observation rubric possibilities

Outcome:
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to create a simple flipchart and identify indicators for teacher evaluation.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating attendance and professional development hours which can be used for the purpose of gaining CEUs where applicable.

Promethean Training Request

Learner Response Systems - ActivInspire 1.6

Participants will be able to create ActivInspire flipcharts which incorporate the use of a Learner Response System, including ActiVote, ActivEngage or ActivExpression devices. The interactive tutorials will take you through the step-by-step process of registering your devices, creating questions, using the enhanced Self-Paced Learning feature, and evaluating results.
Participants will learn to:

  • Register devices/clients

  • Assign students to devices/clients

  • Use the ExpressPoll

  • Use the Question Manager

  • Use the Self-Paced Learning feature

Outcome:
Upon conclusion, participants will be able to create interactive flipcharts incorporating assessment features specifically designed for the implementation of Promethean's Learner Response Systems.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating attendance and professional development hours which can be used for the purpose of gaining CEUs where applicable.

Effective Use of Learner Response Systems (LRS)

Participants will be able to construct ActivInspire flipcharts which incorporate solid questioning techniques and the use of ActiVotes, ActivEngage or ActivExpression devices.

Participants can expect the course to:

  • Provide an understanding of ActiVotes, ActivEngage or ActivExpression functionality in ActivInspire and questioning pedagogy

  • Provide step-by-step, hands-on instruction and integrated examples, including, but not limited to:

    • Registering devices

    • Constructing questions

    • Using Insert Question Wizard

    • Exporting results

    • Exploring higher order thinking skills and questioning strategies

Outcome:
Upon completion of Effective Use of Learner Response Systems (LRS) training course, participants will be able to construct ActivInspire flipcharts which incorporate solid questioning techniques and the use of ActiVotes, ActivExpression or ActivEngage devices.
